COP26 aka the United Nations Climate Change Conference, starts Sunday.
We thought we would list out some of the music related events. There is so much music about the climate out there – we want to share it and spread it and inspire people to act.
10/31 Patti Smith plays at the Pathway to Paris concert
11/1 Musicians in Exile ‘Musicians in Exile, Glasgow’s asylum seeking and refugee musicians, perform their homelands’ music, with new songs created for COP26 about climate change’s impact on refugees.’
11/2 Songs of the Earth, an animated film and album by Soumik Datta, debuts.
11/2 RSNO Children’s Chorus sing songs inspired by #climatechange
11/4 What’s Going On – Panel discussion of Creative and Critical responses to the Climate Emergency at the University of Glasgow.
11/4 Fear of the Green Planet by KMT Freedom Teacher & May Garden Projects, is a multimedia project including music, art, and action.
11/6 Eco Echoes – creative jam making music and games around #climateaction and awareness. We want to know the results!
11/6 Beyond the Green is a 3 day concurrent festival about music, arts, and sustainability. They’re having a banging night on the 6th. They’re donating much of the proceeds to Brian Eno’s charity EarthPercent, which helps the music industry support environmental actions.
11/6 Whoa, blown away by Louis VI. He is leading this workshop, ‘NATURE AIN’T A LUXURY – Why Young Black & Brown People feel alienated from Nature in the UK & the West Presented by Artist & Musician Louis VI’
11/7 We Are the Voice Children’s Environmental Choir also seems inspirational. There’s also a performance from SOS from the Kids, known in the UK for their stunning Britain’s Got Talent performance.
11/8 Into the Amazon – original composition for cello by Emily Burridge.
11/9 Choral Contemplations featuring original and commissioned music. We love the healing power of choirs.
11/11 Project Zero is putting on the Concert for Climate with Twin Atlantic, Admiral Fallow, The Ninth Wave, Rachel Sermanni, Blue Rose Code, Tamzene and The National Youth Pipe Band.
11/11 Water Music: Source to Sea (this sounds extra amazing) a musical and visual imagining of a drop of Scottish water traveling to the sea.
11/12 ‘Glasgow Meets New Orleans, Africa and the World: Climate Change Impacts Culture, Music and All of Us’ featuring a discussion of the music of these two port cities, and contemporary common sounds, with GABO.
11/12 and speaking of Brian Eno, he is hosting a discussion about art and artists addressing the climate crisis.
11/15 Greening Choirs (What did we just write about choirs, and now they can be sustainable and healing.) “This is a workshop on how community singing can explore environmental and social justice issues.”
