Sea Us Rise & Neighbors in the Know at USFSP’s Science in the Sun Fest

Sea Us Rise launched Neighbors in the Know at the USFSP Science in the Sun Festival on Friday and Saturday, February 6 & 7.

We had a wonderful time talking to students on the Friday school day, and then so many wonderful people on Saturday.

Our special project was led by musician Dean Johanesen. Dean would work with each school group to write lyrics for a climate song, that he then played on the main stage on Saturday. Dean also wrote a Sea Us Rise theme song, which delighted our hearts to bursting.

These kids were very much focused on how humans may be harming turtles, whales, and dolphins and other sea creatures. It was interesting to see that through line in almost all of our school groups.

Dean worked with whole families on writing environmental lyrics (and probably had 50 conversations about guitars). We were thrilled about how many people embraced the NiK concept of hyper-local environmental awareness. We also were able to highlight some good and many egregiously bad for the environmental bills being decided on by the Florida State Legislature.
